The limited season for Cormorant Fishing on the Nagara River runs between May 11 and October 15 each year, so the museum enables the appeal of cormorant fishing to be discovered even during the off-season.

About the Nagaragawa Ukai Museum (Gifu City Nagaragawa Ukai Denshokan)

<Purpose of the Nagaragawa Ukai Museum>

Cormorant Fishing on the Nagara River is a proud cultural asset of Gifu City that has evolved in the clear-flowing waters that the Nagara River is naturally blessed with. Through the work of the people who have maintained this tradition, it has continued for over 1300 years. In the present day where mutual existence between humans and nature is sought after, ukai (cormorant fishing) demonstrates a desirable form of interaction between people and nature, which is a feature that will become more and more valuable. This traditional culture is also gaining great interest from people both domestically and internationally in addition to the citizens of Gifu. The Nagaragawa Ukai Museum (Gifu City Nagaragawa Ukai Denshokan) was established as a base for conveying the culture of Cormorant Fishing on the Nagara River, and with the purpose of contributing to the succession of its culture and the promotion of tourism.
